National Fathers Take Your Children to School Day

National Fathers Take Your Children to School Day aims to inspire fathers and families to be more effectively engaged in their children's education. Fathers are invited to escort their children to school on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Each campus will host a brief meeting to encourage fathers to volunteer and to promote parent engagement. Alumnus Spotlight Features Ivy League Sophomore Manuel Figueroa

Manuel Figueroa was born and raised in Galena Park ISD, beginning his education at Cimarron Elementary and Normandy Crossing Elementary. He developed the love of reading at a young age, and once he caught the reading bug, he read a sizable portion of books in the library at Normandy Crossing Elementary before moving on to middle school. GPISD partners with San Jacinto Community College and the Harris County Department of Education to offer morning and evening classes of Adult Education in the areas of GED, English as a Second Language, and Citizenship at four GPISD locations: Cloverleaf Elementary, Jacinto City Elementary, Normandy Crossing Elementary, and Purple Sage Elementary.
