Aymond Returns Calls and Punts and Kicks

North Shore (Texas) defensive back Bug Aymond is seemingly climbing
college wish lists after every game his Mustangs play.
“The calls started off light, but have been picking up,” Aymond said. “I really
liked hearing from Northwestern and Colorado. Colorado has talked about
maybe playing me at linebacker or safety.”
Aymond -- the son of North Shore head coach David Aymond -- combines
speed, versatility, football sense and academics that college recruiters look
for in the recruiting process.
The 6-0, 185-pound athlete anchors a stingy North Shore defense at safety
and thrives in his special teams’ duties. He scored the Mustangs’ first
touchdown of the season against Hastings on a 48-yard punt return, before
returning the second-half kick-off 75 yards against Madison last Friday for
another score.
“He’s just a good football player who has been around the sport his entire life,” the senior Aymond said.
Aymond attended Northwestern and Wisconsin’s one-day camps this summer and list both schools
among his current favorites. Other schools he favors include Arizona, Air Force, Kansas, Middle
Tennessee State and South Dakota State, just to name a few.
Another feather in Aymond’s cap is that he carries a 3.9 grade-point-average and has already scored a
24 on his ACT.
“You really have to be a star like Bobby Reid to be offered scholarships this early,” David Aymond
said. “Kids that are qualified in December become hot commodities and start moving up college
recruiting boards, so we will see how this plays out.”
If he keeps returning kicks and delivering punishment to offenses, Bug Aymond’s wait won’t be much
longer.
