After struggling to overtime wins the past three years – the state-ranked
North Shore (Texas) Mustangs sent a message to their nemesis Deer Park
and district mates, processing the Deer 33-6.
“Their defense was just swarming,” Deer Park head coach Charlie Creel
said. “We knew they had speed, but they were faster than we planned. The
have always had a strong offense, but it’s their defense that is making them
a contender.”
Punishing the Deer were Mustang safeties Bug Aymond and Stephen
James, while defensive end Chris Bocard had a sack and several
pressures. James had an interception and linebacker Courtney Lane had
several recruiting highlight video hits.
North Shore’s (4-0, 1-0 in district play) offense wasn’t to be out done.
Quarterback Robbie Reid hit receiver Tyrell Williams for a 61-yard touchdown strike on the
fourth play of the game to take a 7-0 lead. Reid out ran the Deer defense early in the second quarter
for a 54-yard touchdown, before running back Justin McNeese scored from the one-yard line –
giving the Mustangs a 21-0 lead at halftime.
“Bobby is a special player,” Creel said. “He is very confident and combines a great arm with
tremendous speed.”
McNeese would hit on a 45-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, finishing with 130 yards on 16
carries. Reid was 3-of-8 for 79 yards and a passing touchdown, and had seven rushes for 77 yards
and a rushing touchdown in three quarters of play.
North Shore had two touchdowns called back by penalty – a 58-yard run by McNeese, and another
23-yard touchdown pass by Reid.
