GALENA PARK HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY NEWS

 

 

Sam Houston

The Galena Park Yellowjackets attended the Sam Houston invitational meet Saturday at Veteran Memorial Park. They competed against 11 schools from the metroplex and distinguished themselves. Varsity Girls, led by Brianna Cavazos, who got first place, and Savannah Rios, who got fifth, finished first place as a team. Being amongst the top 20 finishers, all 6 runners on varsity girls received medals. Our JV girls performed well finishing third place overall. The varsity boys, top performers were Eduardo Minjares, who finished third in 16:53, and Tristian Garcia, who finished ninth in 17:25. Our freshman boy, Aidan Garcia, also performed well finishing at the eighth spot. The Yellowjackets will be competing next Thursday at the District 23-5A meet in Alvin, TX.

 

La Porte

The GPHS yellowjackets Cross country team competed at Northwest Park in La Porte. The Yellowjackets participated in four races involving varsity boys and girls and JV boys and girls. Our boys’ and girls’ varsity, top finishers were Eduardo Minjares and Brianna Cavazos, who both finished 29th out of 120 competetor. The Yellowjackets JV team competed for the first time this season and is looking forward to next week’s competition at Sam Houston invitational in Veteran’s Memorial Park.

 

Sam Rayburn

The GPHS Yellowjackets Varsity Boys & Girls competed in the Sam Rayburn invitational at Strawberry Park, Pasadena. Despite the muddy terrain due to the heavy rain, the GPHS yellowjackets showed pride and determination to compete at a high level. The 3.1 miles course consisted of 200+ students from the metroplex. The VB’s top finishers, Eduardo Minjares and Tristian Garcia, and VG’s top finisher, Brianna Cavazos, finished top 20 out of 200 earning themselves a medal for their accomplishment. Next week, the Yellowjackets will attend the Bulldog invitational in La Porte, Tx.

 

Clear Creek

The Galena Park Yellowjackets kicked off their 2017 Cross Country season with the first meet, following the Hurricane Harvey tragedy, at Clear Creek invitational in League City.  The varsity boys competed against 90+ runners and finished with four out of our seven runners beating their own personal record. Varsity’s Boys, top performer, Eduardo Minjares, finished 15th at 18:00 earning a medal for his accomplishment. The Varsity Girls was led by Briana Cavazos who finished 26th. The Yellowjackets will be competing next Friday in the Sam Rayburn Invitational at Strawberry Park, Pasadena, TX.
