Galena Park Golf - Deer Park

The Yellowjacket sub-varsity boys’ team traveled to Deer Park, Texas to compete at the Battle Ground Golf Club in a meet against Barbers Hill High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Springs High School, Deer Park High School, Galveston Ball High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, Kingwood High School (entered 3 teams), Kingwood Park High School, MacArthur High School, Northbrook High School, North Shore High School, Pearland High School, Porter High School, Santa Fe High School, Summer Creek High School, St. Johns XXIII High School, and Texas City High School.  A total of 19 schools teed off Thursday on one of the more difficult courses in the area.  There are many sand traps and the water on holes 14 and 18 make those tricky shots.  The Yellowjackets earned a team score of 416, which was a good enough to tie with Deer Park on the home course.  Martin Meza shot a career best of 97 and finished 44th out of 90 competitors.  Jose Sanchez shot a 99 in his first tournament of the year.  Stephen Sanchez shot a 108, Robert Lopez a 112, and Brandon Ceniceros shot a 116.

The boys will be competing at the district tournament at Battleground Gold Club in Deer Park on April 10th and 11th.

 

 

Galena Park Golf - Battleground Golf

19 Schools participated in Thursday’s tournament at Battleground Golf Club. Battleground is known as one of the more difficult golf courses in the area due to the many sand traps and water on 14 of the 18 holes. Galena Park earned a team score of 416, which was good enough to tie Deer Park on their own golf course.

 

Personal Bests/MVP/Stat Leader(s)/Outstanding Performer(s):
Martin Meza shot a career best 97 and finished in 44th out of 90 players.
Jose Sanchez played his first tournament this school year and shot a 99.

Galena Park Golf - Crosby

The Yellowjacket sub-varsity boys’ team traveled to Crosby, Texas to compete at the Newport Country Club in a meet against Aldine High School, Channelview High School, Crosby High School, and Pasadena High School.  It was a small meet but a good opportunity for the young team to compete.  The Yellowjackets finished second overall and each team member earned a medal for their strong play.  Freshman, Gabriel Rivera led the way shooting the team’s best score of 103.  Gabriel finished fourth overall.

 

 

 

Galena Park Golf - Bay Oaks

The Yellowjacket sub-varsity boys’ team was back in action at the Bay Oaks Country Club this last Monday.  The team teed off against Alvin High School, Brazoswood High School, Clear Brook High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Lake High School, Deer Park High School, Dickenson High School, Dobie High School, Friendswood High School, Galveston Ball High School, Kingwood High School, Manvel High School, Porter High School, Ridge Point High School, Sam Rayburn High School, Santa Fe High School, Summer Creek High School, Strake Jesuit High School, St. John High School, and Texas City High School.


Boys Highlights:
This tournament was the largest tournament of the season with 24 schools participating and 111 boys competing.  Galen Park finished 16th out of the 24 schools.  Martin Meza shot a 110 and finished 62nd.  Freshman, Gabriel Rivera shot his personal best of 118 in only his second tournament.  Gabriel also earned his first par of the year.

The boys’ team will be at Newport Golf Club in Crosby, Texas on Monday, February 6th.

 

 

Galena Park Golf - Deer Park

The Yellowjacket boys’ golf team competed at Battleground Country Club in Deer Park Thursday, November 10th against 19 other schools.  The meet showcased teams from Aldine High School, Baytown Lee High School, Clear Creek High School, Crosby High School, Dawson High School, Deer Park High School, Fort Bend Austin High School, Galveston Ball High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, Lamar High School, Marshall High School, Pasadena Memorial High School, Porter High School, Sam Rayburn High School, South Houston High School, St. Thomas High School, and Summer Creek High School.  There were a total of 99 young men representing these schools on a challenging Battleground course.  The course kept all of the competitors on their game especially when it came to navigating the water hazards at holes 14 and 18.  The Galena Park golfers played their best and received many compliments from other coaches regarding their golf shots and etiquette.  Martin Meza shot a 109 and finished 64th; Robert Lopez shot a 112 and finished 66th; and Brandon Ceniceros shot a 116 and finished tied for 68th.

The JV boys’ team will be at Timber Creek in Clear Brook on November 28th with an 8:00 am tee time.

Galena Park Golf - Timber Creek

The freshman and JV girls took their golf skills to the Timber Creek Country Club on the 7th of November.  The Lady Jackets competed against Atascocita High School, Baytown Lee High School, Brazoswood High School, Clear Brook High School, Clear Falls High School, Dickinson High School, Galveston Ball High School, Kingwood High School, Pasadena High School, and Sam Rayburn High School.  Nataly Vega fought through the wet conditions to finish tied for 12th place out of 57 participants.

The JV boys’ team will be at Battleground for a tournament hosted by Deer Park on November 10th at 8:00 am.

 

 

Galena Park Golf - Bay Oaks Golf Club

The GPHS boys’ sub-varsity golf team took to the Bay Oaks Golf Club on Halloween for a fall golf meet.  The meet included Aldine High School, Channelview High School, Clear Brook High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear Lake High School, Cy Falls High School, Deer Park High School, Friendswood High School, Kingwood High School, Pasadena High School, and Summer Creek High School.  Robert Lopez led the way again by shooting the team’s lowest score.  The team hit some great shots but seemed to get some unlucky bounces off the green.  Bay Oaks Country Club, with its huge sand traps and abundant water hazards, proved a tough but worthy golf course.  The area schools’ knowledge of the course prevailed and Galena Park finished 10th out of the 14 teams.  Robert Lopez hit a 116, Martin Meza a 117, Brandon Ceniceros a 120, Angel Aguinaga a 133, and Adrian Alejandro a 138.  Angel and Adrian both played in their first 18 hole tournament at this meet.

The girls’ team will be at Timber Creek Golf Club November 7th in a meet hosted by Clear Brook High School.  Tee-time is 8:00 am.

 

 

Galena Park Golf - Newport Golf

The freshman and JV golf teams competed at Newport Golf Club Monday, October 17th against Aldine High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Baytown Lee High School, Crosby High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, New Caney High School, 2 teams from Kingwood High School, Nimitz High School, Pasadena High School, Pasadena Memorial High School, Spring High School, Summer Creek High School, and Porter High School.  Robert Lopez led the way in the boys’ division by hitting long, accurate drives.  He had 3 pars on the front 9, two of them back to back.  He finished 4th out of a field of 46, a career best for Robert.  Nataly Vega finished 4th overall in the girls’ division.  Both Nataly and Robert missed placing third and earning a bronze medal by a single stroke.

Both teams will be golfing at Bay Oaks Country Club in Clear Springs on Monday, October 31st beginning at 8:00 am.

 

 

Galena Park Golf - Red Wolf

The Galena Park Golf team played at Red Wolf Country Club on October 5th.  Galena Park had one participant, Nataly Vega who finished 8th out of 52 girls.  Nataly competed against Atascocita High School, Caney Creek High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, MacArthur High School, Splendora High School, Spring High School, and Porter High School.  The top ten finishers earned medals, and Nataly earned and 8th place medal.  Nataly sank a long putt on a very difficult 17th hole to capture her first birdie of the season.

Nataly Vega, Galena Park's only participant, finished 8th overall out of 52 girls. She received an 8th place medal for her accomplishment. Only the top 10 players received medals.

Nataly showed off her chipping and putting skills on the very difficult 17th hole at Red Wolf Country Club. She sank a long putt to capture her first birdie of the year.
