GPHS Golf Update - Pasadena Tournament

The meet showcased teams from Alvin High School, Channelview High School, Pasadena Memorial High School, Sam Rayburn High School, and South Houston High School.  Twenty girls showed up to golf in the Sam Rayburn Invitational despite the soaking wet course.  Galena Park’s junior, Nataly Vega, led the field of players the entire way with her long drives and accurate approach shots.  In the end, she proved victorious earning the 1st place finish and bringing home the Gold!


On Deck:
The boys’ team will next play at Battleground Golf Course in Deer Park, Texas on April 9th and 10th.

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Golfcrest

The meet showcased teams from Atascocita High School, Channelview High School, Clear Brook High School, Clear Lake High School, Dawson High School (2 teams), Deer Park High School, Dobie High School, First Baptist High School, Friendswood High School, Huffman High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, Manvel High School, North Shore High School, Pearland High School (2 teams), Sam Rayburn High School and Travis High School.  Coach Frey was proud of his boys Monday as they played in the worst conditions of the year.  Rain all weekend made the course wet and the temperatures felt like 28°.  The boys couldn’t feel their hands, feet, or noses but they manned up and played without complaint.  Martin Meza shot a 116 which was the best score of the team.

The girls’ JV team will be Atascocita Golf Course next week.

 

 

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Alvin

The meet showcased teams from Alvin High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Lake High School (2 teams), Friendswood High School, Kingwood High School, Marshall High School, Memorial High School, Pearland High School, and Strake Jesuit High School.  It was a tough day against some high caliber competitors; the greens were lightning-fast and the boys couldn’t get many putts to drop.  Add in the multiple sand traps and water hazards and one can understand how difficult the day it was.  Martin Meza did make a 20 foot putt to save par on 14 and he shot a 112 making him the G.P. high scorer.

The boys’ team will next play at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas.

 

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Timber Creek

The Yellowjacket boys’ sub-varsity golf team competed at Timber Creek Golf Course in Clear Brook Monday, November 27th against 22 other schools.  The meet showcased teams from Alvin High School, Atascocita High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Brazoswood High School, Clear Brook High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Lake High School, Clear Springs High School, Deerbrook High School, Friendswood High School, Galveston Ball High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, Houston Memorial High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, La Porte High School, Pasadena High School, Pasadena Memorial High School, Pearland High School, South Houston High School, and Summer Creek High School.  This was a big tournament with 22 schools and 122 participants.  The MVP for G.P. was 10th grader, Gabriel Rivera, who finished 68th out of 122 participants.

The JV girls’ tournament will be at Newport Golf Club in Crosby, Texas on January 17th, 2018.

GPHS Golf Update - Chambers Country

The boys and girls sub-varsity golf teams competed at Chambers County Golf Course in Anahuac, Texas on November 15th.  It was a beautiful day with tough golfing conditions at the Anahuac meet that featured Baytown Lee High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Channelview High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, Monsignor Kelly High School, Sam Rayburn High School, and West Brook High School.  David Rivera placed 6th out of 26 participants in his second tournament of the year.  David was only one stroke from earning a 5th place medal.  Alissa Vasquez played her best round of golf finishing tied for 7th place out of 22 participants.

The JV boys’ team will be at Timber Creek Golf Course in Clear Brook on the 27th of November.

 

 

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Deer Park

The Yellowjacket boys’ golf team competed at Battleground Country Club in Deer Park Thursday, November 9th against 28 other schools.  The meet showcased teams from Alvin High School, Barbers Hill High School, Baytown Lee High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Channelview High School, Cinco Ranch High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Lake High School, Clements High School, Deer Park High School, Dickenson High School, Dobie High School, Friendswood High School, George Ranch High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, Katy Taylor High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, Lamar High School, Pasadena High School, Pasadena Memorial High School, Sam Rayburn High School, South Houston High School, Strake Jesuit High School, and Stratford High School.  There were a total of 123 young men representing these schools on a challenging Battleground course.  The cold and wet conditions didn’t make the Yellowjackets’ jobs any easier.  Galena Park would finish 19th out of 28 schools and Martin Meza scored the low round of the day.

GPHS Golf Update - Timber Creek

The freshman and JV girls took their golf skills to the Timber Creek Country Club on the 6th of November.  The Lady Jackets competed against Atascocita High School, Baytown Lee High School, Brazoswood High School, Clear Brook High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Springs High School, Friendswood High School, Pasadena High School Sam Rayburn High School, and South Houston High School.  Nataly Vega finished tied for 13th place out of 41 participants. 

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Atascocita

The sub-varsity girls’ golf team teed off at Atascocita Golf Course in Atascocita, Texas on October 26th.  The tournament consisted of teams from Aldine High School, Atascocita High School, Baytown Lee High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Channelview High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, Kingwood High School, Kingwood Park High School, New Caney High School, Oak Ridge High School and Pasadena High School.  Nataly Vega finished tied for fourth with Kingwood’s top golfer.  However, after a scorecard playoff, she would finish fifth out of 44 participants.  The top ten golfers received medals and Nataly earned a medal!

The freshman and JV girls will be at Timber Creek Golf Course in Clear Brook on November 6th.

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Channelview

The varsity and JV teams teed off at River Terrace Golf Course in Channelview, Texas on October 19th.  The tournament consisted of teams from Barbers Hill High School, Baytown Lee High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Channelview High School, Dobie High School, Galveston Ball High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, MacArthur High School, New Caney High School, and Shadow Creek High School.  Out of the eleven schools present, Galena Park finished 5th.  Congratulations to Martin Meza who finished 15th out of 45 and Robert Lopez who finished tied for 18th.

The freshman and JV girls will be at Atascocita Golf Course on October 26th.

 

 

 

 

GPHS Golf Update - Newport

The Galena Park Golf team played at a freshman/JV tournament on Monday, October 2nd.  The tournament was in Crosby, Texas at Newport Golf Course and featured Baytown Lee High School, Baytown Sterling High School, Brazoswood High School, Channelview High School, Goose Creek Memorial High School, MacArthur High School, Oakridge High School, and Sam Rayburn High School.  Adrian Alejandro finished 11th out of 44 and Gabriel Rivera finished 15th out of 44.  David Rivera and Aaron Velasco played their first tournament Monday and finished tied for 29th.

The girls’ team will play at Timber Creek Golf Course in Clear Brook for the next tournament.
