GAME UPDATE - NEW CANEY EAGLES

The New Caney Lady Eagles came into Galena Park Tuesday, September 9th for a volleyball showdown.

Freshman Team:
The freshman team started the night by knocking the soaring Eagles to the ground.  The freshman came from behind in both games 1 and 2 to win the match in 3 games with scores of 27-25, 15-25, 26-24.  Defensive specialist Yesenia Hidalgo kept the team on track with outstanding defense and passing off serve.  Middle hitters Destinie Skinner and Ariana Saenz took control of the game with aggressive net play.

Junior Varsity Team:
The JV battled hard in a 3 game loss to the Eagles.  They started off allowing the Eagles an 18-9 lead in game 1 to come back to drop the game 1 23-25.  The team came out and took control of game 2 with a 25-22 win.  Then poor decision making in game 3 kept us from finishing off the Eagles for the match.  New Caney won game 3 12-25.  Sophomore setter, Alexis Castillo stepped up and set her best game this season and sophomore outside hitter, Angelica Torres was the JV kill leader with 5 kills.

Varsity Team:
The Queen Jackets stepped on the floor ready to take over where they left off versus Humble last Friday.  We came out strong, aggressive, and fast in game one earning us the game one victory.  However, the volleyball mother ship called her aliens home and we left the next three games on the floor.  All the aggression and speed in the first game was totally missing the remainder of the match.  Senior, Briana Diaz played a solid all around game while sophomore Alana Perez was the kill leader with 12 kills

On Deck:
All three teams will be off this Friday but back in action Tuesday, September 16th at New Caney Porter High School.  Freshman game starts at 4:30 pm followed by a 5:30 pm JV start and a 6:30 pm Varsity start.

GAME UPDATE - DAYTON

The Lady Jackets traveled to Dayton to take on the Broncos Tuesday, September 2nd.

The freshman team started the night in a hard fought battle against the young Broncs. Dayton came out and finished off the Yellowjackets with a 23-25 victory to fall to the swarm in game two 25-20. Dayton shot into the lead in game 3, but the Yellowjackets fought back antenna and stinger losing 20-25 after coming back from a 16-4 deficit. Destinie Skinner and Yesenia Hidalgo were the players of the game.

The JV also played in a close 2pt game through much of game one, but setting issues required a change in the offensive plan and we just couldn't recover. Jailene Salinas played an outstanding game both on the net and defensively, which is not what she is usually called upon to do. Dayton wins 18-25 and 16-25.

The varsity came out and gave Dayton a scare in game one. The Lady Jackets were on point most of game one falling just short of the win with a 26-28 loss. Game two and three found the Jackets wanting in the blocking department, and we failed to capitalize on opportunities. The Lady Broncos took the match beating us 14-25 and 10-25 in games two and three. Senior Yesenia Pulido is the kill leader with 11 kills and one of the players of game with her fierce play on the net and from the service line. Alana Perez was asked to take on a new role tonight and she stepped up and played well.

The Lady Jackets will be back in action at Humble High School with a 4:30pm varsity start time. The Lady Jackets our currently 0-2 in district play.
