With a week to go in the season, below is an overview of how Yellowjacket football has fared:

The 7th grade gold team sits at 4-3 on the season. Thanks to strong quarterback play from Yuriah Richardson, receiver play from Francisco Barrientos, the Jacket offense has outscored their opponents in blowout fashion in their 4 wins. The Jacket defense has been up and down this season, but is anchored by strong play from newcomers Vicente Torres and Zachry Clay, both play a linebacker position. The gold team is led by Coach Valadez and Coach Lewis. We are excited about finishing the season with a 5-3 mark and going into the offseason with lots of positive momentum.

The black team has struggled this season. They are 1-5 now, with a clash against North Shore looming this afternoon. There is no doubt that the MVP of this team falls on the shoulders of Amarion Kelly. He has kept the black team in ball games this season with outstanding play on both sides of the ball. He has gotten some help, however. Help has come in the person of Isaac Covarrubias, Bryce Simon, Peja Richardson, and Josiah Tijerina. The coaching staff , led on game days by Coach Boeckers and Coach Clark, still feels there is potential on this team's roster. It will do this group a lot of good to have a great offseason, so they can become stronger and more physical.

Although the 8th grade gold team is 3-4 on the season, it could have very easily been 5-2. There were two games that had to be shortened because of weather. The jackets lost both games by very narrow margins. The gold team has gotten surprisingly fantastic quarterback play from Landen Black. Landen was converted to the position during last offseason and it has paid huge dividends. Isaac Villarreal has been stout at running back, while the Jacket defense has held steady all season long. Coaches Landry and Trevino feel good about their chances for consecutive winning seasons, if they can beat rival Woodland Acres next week.

Although there has been solid defensive play from the 8th grade black team, the 1-5 campaign has been marred by inconsistent offensive play. There have been some bright spots on both sides of the ball. The QB/ WR switch of Gabriel Pagan and Josh Williams has proven to aid the offense over the past 3 games. Defensively, cornerback Osiel Terrones, Jeb Brummitt and Luis Sanchez has anchored the defensive unit throughout the season.
