Woodland Acres Basketball Update - Galena Park Middle

On November 14th the Woodland Acres Lady Hornets scrimmaged the Galena Park Middle School Yellowjackets.

8th Grade Gold Team:
The Gold team scored a quick two baskets in the first fifteen seconds of the scrimmage and it appeared that it would be a solid beginning to their young season.  Alas, reality set and a lack of rebounding and poor defensive transition cost the Lady Hornets.  GPMS defeated WAMS 31-12 in their first outing of the 2016-2017 season.  Jimena Amezquita led the Hornets with 6 points, Victoria Martinez had 4 points and Abriana Vasquez had 2 points.

8th Grade Black Team:
The Black team started their 2016-2017 with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm.  That energy translated into some long possessions on the offensive side and some steals that led to points on the defensive side.  Andrea Padron was a blazing star on defense as she had many deflections and steals throughout the scrimmage.  Natalie Macias added points to the WAMS side of the scoreboard with her aggressive, no holds barred penetration into the heart of the Yellowjacket defense.  Aileen Castro was a firecracker for the Hornets as her quickness and anticipation gave the Hornets energy.  Aileen also capped off her evening with a three-point shot.  Monday night was a good test of where the Lady Hornets are early in this season and even though they lost 29-37 a strong foundation has been laid.  Andrea Padron and Aileen Castro earned accolades for their defensive play and Emily Escudero and Jerimya Buchannan earned offensive recognition.
