WAMS Volleyball Game Update - Cunningham Middle

On October 20th the Woodland Acres volleyball teams competed against the Cunningham Wildcats.


7th Grade Gold Team:
The Lady Hornets Gold team defeated Cunningham in two quick sets, 25-20 and 25-10.  Maritza Muro had a 6 serve streak in the first set and Haven Hernandez had a 12 serve streak in the second set.  Kayla Garcia was big on the net with a couple of blocks.


7th Grade Black Team:
The Lady Hornets Black team suffered a heartbreaking loss against Cunningham Thursday night.  The Hornets fought back after losing the first set 21-25 to win the second set 25-18.  Monse Villalobos served off 14 serves in the second set, but it would prove to be too little as Cunningham regrouped and finished off the third set 7-15.  Adriana Rebollar and Monse Villalobos were the players of the game.


8th Gold Team:
The Hornets Gold team came up short versus the Wildcats as the lost in three sets: 25-23, 15-25, and 3-15.  Jimena Amezquita, Lillian Villarreal, Yahaira Ambriz, Andrea Padron Mia Flores scored points on serve.  Jimena and Andrea played a strong front row while JuJu Medina controlled the back row.


8th Black Team:
The Black team played one of their most exciting matches against the Wildcats of Cunningham last Thursday night.  The Lady Hornets took the first set 25-17 then narrowly missed completely a comeback in set two with a 22-25 loss.  In set three with the score tied 12-12 Ilana Esparza served off the final three points and clinched the Hornet victory.  Aileen Castro controlled and set up the offense with her amazing on target tempo passes.


On Deck:

The Woodland Acres volleyball program will be playing Galena Park Middle School this next week.  The 8th grade teams will be at Galena Park High School in the competition gym, while the 7th graders will be playing at Woodland Acres Middle School.  Both games will start at 5:00 pm.

 

 

WAMS Volleyball Game Update - Anthony Aguirre

On October 15th the Woodland Acres volleyball teams battled Anthony Aguirre Middle School.


7th Grade Black Team:
The Lady Hornets black team left everything on the court in a point for point dog fight with the Bulldogs of Aguirre.  Aguirre battled to take the match in three sets:  25-20, 21-25, 13-15.  Natalie Fuentes and Larissa Vazquez played outstanding.


7th Grade Gold Team:
The Gold team played their hearts out leaving everything on the floor in the closest match of the season.  Unfortunately, their hearts were not enough as Aguirre squeaked out the two points needed to take the match.  WAMS struck first taking the first set 25-20 but then dropped the second set 19-25.  Then the both teams went back and forth in the final set but Aguirre prevailed 15-17.  Alexa Augeta was the MVP as she served off 7 straight points.  Angie Palamino and Maritza Muro passed and set well then entire match.


8th Grade Black Team:
WAMS Black team started strong in their first set but ended up losing the set 22-25 and the match 16-25 and 4-15.  Serving, attack and defensive errors turned the ball and momentum over to the Bulldogs and the Hornets were never able to recover.  Natalie Macias and Emily “Cha Cha” Escudero served well while Jerimya Buchannan stalked the net from her middle blocker position.


8th Grade Gold Team:
The Gold team came up short against Aguirre losing 21-25, 13-25, and 7-15.  Mia Flores, Andrea Padron, Lilliana Villarreal, Yahaira Ambriz, Abigail Figueroa, and Jimena Amezquita served off points for the Lady Hornets.  Mia Flores, Anreas Padron and Jimena Amezquita earned kills on the night.  Jackaline Gonzalez and JuJu Medina dominated on defense.

The Woodland Acres volleyball program will be facing off against Cunningham Middle School on Thursday, October 20th.

 

 

WAMS Volleyball Game Update - Alice Johnson

On October 6th the Woodland Acres Volleyball Program competed against Alice Johnson Middle School.


7th Grade Gold Team:

The Gold team suffered their first loss in two sets to Alice Johnson:  14-25 and 8-25.  Emily Cruz and Iris Gonzalez played well as did setter Haven Hernandez.


7th Grade Black Team:
The Hornets Black team battled hard against Alice Johnson but lost in two sets:  21-25 and 18-25.  Adriana Rebollar served well and Priscilla Enriquez passed well.  Monse Villalobos and Eva Salinas ran the offense well and served well.


8th Grade Gold Team:
The Gold team came up short on points against Alice Johnson, but not on heart.  The Hornets lost to Alice Johnson 18-25, 20-25, and 13-15.  Points were made by Jimena Amezquita, Andrea Padron, Yahaira Ambriz, Lillianna Villareal, Mia Flores and Abigail Figueroa.  Jimena Amezquita had a block that brought the crowd to their feet.


8th Grade Black Team:
The Black team continued their growth and team work against the Hornets of Alice Johnson Thursday evening.  The WAMS Hornets lost the first set 18-25 to come back in the second and win 25-20.  The third set went to Alice Johnson (9-15) after some untimely service and attacking errors by WAMS.  Natalie Macias led the team with 18 points off serve.  Jerimya Buchannan and Emily Lopez both had blocks, and Aileen Castro made outstanding passes throughout.


On Deck:
The Woodland Acres will be competing against Anthony Aguirre Middle School next Thursday, October 13th.

 

 

WAMS Volleyball Game Update - North Shore Middle

On September 299th the Woodland Acres 7th grade teams hosted North Shore Middle School while the 8th grade teams traveled to the other side of the district for a showdown against the ponies.


7th Grade Black Team:
The Lady Hornets Black team represented the black and gold of WAMS exceptionally well as they battled through three sets to take the victory Thursday night.  The Hornets took set one 25-20, lost the second set 22-25, then scratched out a 15-12 victory in the third set to win the match.  Monse Villalobos and Eva Salinas ruled behind the services line as they racked up points for the Hornets.


7th Grade Gold Team:
The Gold team also found themselves in a three set battle as they held off the Mustangs in a 23-25, 25-13, and 15-11 victory.  Lizbeth Rojo helped propel her team to victory with her strong serving and Kaylee Noah held down the defense with her solid passing.  Haven Hernandez also earned some recognition for her serving.


8th Grade Black Team:
The Hornets traveled to North Shore Thursday night to square off against the Mustangs.  The Lady Hornets were aggressive on offense, played solid defense, and attacked North Shore from the service line, but in the end the Hornets fell short of a win.  North Shore beat WAMS 25-16, 25-18, and 15-7.  Aileen Castro was named the defensive player of the game and Jacky Diaz earned offensive honors with her life threatening back row attacks.


8th Grade B Team:
The Gold team took the Mustangs to three sets and pulled out the victory.  The Hornets took set one 25-21, lost the second 19-25, and won the third 15-10.  Jimena Amezquita, Lilliana Villarreall, Andrea Padron, Mia Flores, Abigail Figueroa all contributed to the scoring. Yahira Ambriz was high point server with 11 points scored on her rotation.  Anahi Alvarado, Michelle Castro, Jaqueline Gonzalez and Dayana Lara all played solid defense.

The Hornets will match volleyball skills against Alice Johnson Middle School Thursday, October 6th.

 

 

WAMS Volleyball Game Update - C.E. King

On September 22nd the Woodland Acres 8th grade teams hosted C.E. King while the 7th grade teams traveled to C.E. King Middle School.


7th Grade Black Team:

The Black Team held strong in two tight sets against C.E. King pulling off the 25-23, 25-19 and 19-17 victory.  The Hornets successfully put together an offense anchored by the passing of Leslie Vazquez and the decision making of Emily Camacho.  Gold stars go to Emily Camacho, Eva Salinas, and Monse Villalobos.


7th Grade Gold Team:
The Lady Hornet Gold Team dominated and devastated C.E. King by scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 15-8 last Thursday evening.  Fatima Teran worked hard all week to control the tempo of the offense with her passing and Kayla Garcia served several aces.  Top performers were Kayla Garcia and Haven Hernandez.


8th Grade Black Team:
The Black Team played two of the most nail biting sets ever played at WAMS this last Thursday night.  The Lady Hornets were down in the first set 24-20, but refused to give up the set to C.E. King.  Natalie Macias served off our straight points propelling the Hornets to a 28-26 victory.  Set two was just as challenging, but the Hornets fought as a team to come from behind in set two for a 25-23 triumph.  Emily Lopez, Jerimya Buchannan, Ilana Esparza, Aileen Castro, and Jacky Diaz all contributed at the net with aggressive attacking.  Emily Lopez served aggressively and had several blocks.


8th Grade B Team:
The Gold Team defeated C.E. King in two sets behind some very strong and consistent serving.


On Deck:

The Woodland Acres will be competing at the Cunningham tournament Saturday, September 24th and against North Shore Thursday, October 29th.

 

 

WAMS Volleyball Game Update - Galena Park Middle School

The 7th grade Black team traveled to Galena Park Middle School for their annual tournament.  The team played twelve games improving their skills and competition each match.  The Lady Hornets ended the day with 4 wins and 8 losses.  Monse Villalobos and Eva Salinas captained their team throughout the tournament.  Monse also played in all twelve games.  Emily Camacho and Eva Salinas racked up several ace serves helping their team win crucial points.

 

 

WAMS Volleyball Game Update - Null Middle School

On September 15th the Woodland Acres 7th grade teams hosted Null Middle School while the 8th grade teams traveled to Null Middle School.


7th Grade Gold Team:
The Hornets’ Gold Team dominated Null winning the match in two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-16.  The young Hornets served and passed well enough to keep Null on their heels.  Haven Hernandez and Maritza Muro spurred the team to victory from the service line.

 
7th Grade Black Team:
The Black Team dominated Null in a two set victory by scores of 25-20 and 25-13.  The Hornets brought their A game as they served aggressively and set the ball up for Monse Villalobos to attack.  Both Monse and Eva Salinas scored multiple points from the service line.  Monse was the MVP with her 6 consecutive service points as was Eva Salinas.


8th Grade Gold Team:
“Can you say sweep?”  The 8th Grade Gold team won their match in two sets and won the extra third set as well this last Thursday evening.  The Hornets played with pride winning 25-10, 26-24, and 15-13.  Lilliana Villareal, Dennis Antunez, Yahira Ambriz, JuJu Medina, Jimena Amezquita, Andrea Padron, Abigail Figueroa all scored points; Michelle Castro was the point leader with 11 points off serve.  Way to go ladies, two claps for the Hornets.


8th Grade Black Team:
The 8th grade Black Team fell behind early and quickly in set one which they lost 14-25.  The Lady Hornets maintained composure and won the next two sets 25-16 and 15-9 to take the match.  Natalie Macias served off 6 straight serves in the third set and the Hornets never looked back.  Natalie Macias, Emily Escudero, Jerimya Buchannan and Ilana Esparza all served aces during the match.

The Woodland Acres volleyball teams will be playing C.E. King next Thursday, September 22nd.
