Pep Rally Celebrates Academic Success

Students at Cunningham Middle School participated in an academic pep rally at their school on Friday afternoon. Classes are grouped into teams and compete to see which team shows the most improvement in specific academic areas. The rally was as loud and boisterous as any athletic pep rally. Students cheered and danced gleefully as the winners were announced. After proclaiming the winners of each category, Emmanuel Sanders, NFL wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, encouraged the students to continue to do their best. Sanders was thrilled with the idea of an academic pep rally. “I saw a lot of energy. I saw kids getting excited about getting good grades. I saw a sports atmosphere based around academics… it's cool,” Sanders said. “This school has brought a competitive element to academics. Competition only makes you better. That's brilliant,” he added.
