Principal's Message

August 2, 2017

We are getting closer to the start of school!  Parents, please continue to check this website, as well as our Facebook and Twitter accounts for important information.  Remember, school starts on a Wednesday this year (August 23rd), and we expect all students to be present on the first day.  Please never hesitate to give us a call with questions.

July 24, 2017

As we get closer to the start of the 2017-2018 school year, please remember that verifying your address is an important step for ECHS admission.  Returning Student Verification starts this week and will have 5 convenient locations.  ECHS is not a location for address verification, so please make sure you visit the district website for the locations nearest to you.  As always, you must provide proper documentation to verify your address.

ECHS office staff and administration are back full time from summer break and looking forward to assisting you.  Give us a call (281-459-7198) to set up an appointment, or stop by for a quick question.  We are excited about a new year!  See you soon.

July 6, 2017

Hope you are having a restful and exciting summer!  Please check this website for information regarding Lion Camp, as well as student schedule pick-up.  Administrative and office staff will be back fulltime beginning July 24th

Please also welcome Ms. Ashley Sherrard, who will serve as ECHS very first Assistant Principal, and Ms. Monica Nichols, who will be serving as ECHS Counselor for the upcoming school year.  We are super excited to have these fabulous ladies join our team.  They are certainly looking forward to meeting all of the students in August.  Be safe and see you soon!

May 25, 2017

Summer is here!  It will be a long two months without the students here, and we will be waiting with open arms in August.  Our summer hours will be posted on this webpage, and you can always call us if you have questions or concerns.  We look forward to our newest group of students joining us in August.  The Class of 2021 will be here soon!  Have a wonderful summer break!

May 15, 2017

Just a few days left of school!  It truly seems like just yesterday I was welcoming all of the students and parents at the beginning of the year.  Our finals schedule will be posted soon, and that schedule will include two days of early release.  We will also have summer AP and Pre-AP projects posted soon as well.  It has been a fantastic second year of existence for CTE ECHS and we cannot wait to welcome our new friends from the Class of 2021.  Check back with us periodically for important updates.

April 18, 2017

It is so hard to believe that this school year is coming to a close.  Another round of EOC assessments will take place during the first week of May, so it is vital that we continue to stay on top of college and high school course work, and remained focused until the very end.  We also encourage parents and students to be mindful of the importance of attendance during these spring and early summer months.  Attendance is very much an expectation of both CTE ECHS and San Jacinto College, and is an indicator of whether students will remain in the program.  Our goal is to finish strong this semester and continue to accomplish great things!

March 20, 2017

Hope everyone had a restful Spring Break?  Now back to work!  We are a few days away from English I & II EOC assessments and the students and teachers have been working very hard to ensure success.  As per normal operating procedure, we ask that parents assist us with conveying the importance of rest and good eating habits during the testing week.  Please call if you have any questions or concerns and keep an eye on this web-page for exact dates.

February 27, 2017

The Spring semester is moving at a fast pace!  Congratulations to the newest members of the CTE ECHS family as we recently selected the Class of 2021 via lottery.  For parents of both active and students on the waiting list, please check the website often for updates and meeting times.  For parents of current students, testing season is getting closer so we are going to offer several tutoring and remediation opportunities to ensure student success.  Please continue to use Skyward to monitor grades and don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.

Please join me on March 9th to discuss the current and future status of our fine program.  We have lots of updates to share, so we would love to have you join us for refreshments and plenty of information.  See the flyer attached to this website for meeting information.  Parents of incoming students are welcome for the second session.  See you soon.

February 21, 2017

The lottery to select our third cohort of students is this Friday!  We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2021 to our wonderful campus.  The lottery will be played via live streaming on the GPISD website at 2:30.  If for some reason you or your child were unable to watch and hear their name called, counselors from each of the middle schools will be informing students immediately following.  Thank you so much for allowing your child to select ECHS as a possible high school destination.  Best of luck!

February 6, 2017

We are getting close to lottery time!  On February 24th, we will be selecting our next cohort of students, who will join us as 9th graders in August.  Please make sure your student speaks with their 8th grade Counselor and completes an application.  Applications can also be downloaded from this website and delivered directly to Counselor or our offices.  I will be visiting the all MS campuses prior to the lottery date to speak with students one more time.  Galena Park CTE Early College High School is a proud partner with San Jacinto College and look forward to your child joining us as a member of the Class of 2021.  We are a phone call away!

January 3, 2017

As we embark on 2nd semester, I’d like to remind parents of current 8th grade students that we have four Parent Information sessions scheduled for each middle school in the month of January.  Please refer to this website for specific dates.  Parents may attend any session that is convenient for them.  These helpful meetings will allow parents to ask questions and make informed decisions about their child’s high school experience.  Each session will begin at 6:00 and last as long as necessary.  Middle schools will send out notices as to the specific date and location of the information meeting.  If you cannot attend one of the four middle school sessions, we will host a 5th session at San Jacinto College on February 2nd.  As always, we are one phone call away.  Have a wonderful Spring semester and strive for excellence!

November 28, 2016

Wow, it is so hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the semester.  There are many things to be mindful of as we approach the December holidays.  Students will be taking college finals soon, and need to check Blackboard often for updates from Professors.  ECHS will know the actual final exam date and time and will communicate with the students s they will be prepared.  Sophomores, in some cases, might have multiple final exams.  Please encourage your child to study and take these exams seriously.  High school semester exams will take place the week of December 12th.  Keep an eye on the website for updates in the coming weeks.  Oh, and we have already begun the process of recruiting the Class of 2021; more details to come soon.

November 11, 2016

Parents, we want to remind you that classes will be held at San Jacinto College on Monday and Tuesday of the Thanksgiving holiday break.  Depending on what day your child has college class, they will be expected to attend on those days, unless they have made arrangements with the Professor.  Please be mindful that ECHS cannot request or direct college personnel to allow students a day off from class.  This policy is an integral part of the CTE ECHS program, especially as we get closer to finals.  You are more than welcome to call and discuss the matter with us further, and we do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

October 28, 2016

Recruiting for the Class of 2021, yes already, is underway!   We will be taking current ECHS students to each of the 4 middle school campuses to speak with interested 8th graders during their lunches.  Nothing formal; just passing out information and talking to the students while they eat.  This will be our first contact with the future group of freshmen and we are super excited to get to speak with them.  Our calendar will have specific times and which schools we will visit coming soon.  Parent info meetings will be booked soon, so keep checking our website for dates.

October 21, 2016

Our students did such and amazing job with PSAT and PreACT!  As always, we thank the parents for helping us reinforce the importance of these types of exams.  The week of October 24th begins our Red Ribbon week on campus.  Of course this important week is geared towards drug awareness, and we have a great lineup of themes for each day.  Please see the link on this website.  We will send Remind messages as well.

Recruiting for the Class of 2021, yes already, will begin in November when we take a squad to each Middle School to visit the lunches.  Nothing formal; just passing out information and talking to the students while they eat lunch.  This will be our first contact with the future group of freshmen and we are super excited to get to speak with them.  Our calendar will have specific times and which schools we will visit coming soon.

October 13, 2016

Hard to believe we are at the mid-term of the Fall semester.  We are expecting mid-term grades from San Jacinto Professors very soon, and we will be working very closely with any student who is struggling to maintain an acceptable grade.  Please make sure you ask your child how they are doing in their college class and take time to check their grades on Blackboard.  We appreciate every effort you make to help with student success.

Next Wednesday the freshmen will take the PSAT exam.  Please see the link above with all of the pertinent information regarding this important high school requirement.

October 3, 2016

Next Monday, October 10th, is a GPISD student holiday (Columbus Day), but students are expected to attend their college class that day as San Jacinto College will be open for business.  We will be sending a letter home this week with pertinent bus information so that your child will have access to transportation.  This is a requirement for all GPISD students enrolled in dual credit courses.  This will also take place during the week of Thanksgiving, but we will send home more info as we get closer to that particular holiday.  As always, we are one phone call away!

September 20, 2016

The school year is off to a great start, and we are super excited about the progress our students are making.  Please continue to monitor your child’s class work and well-being and remember to contact us with any issues.  As we near the end of a grading period we will begin the process of meeting with each student to discuss grades and goals.  We always greatly appreciate your assistance!

September 6, 2016

Open house is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13th.  Parents will follow a modified version of their child’s schedule with the opportunity to meet each high school teacher.  College Professors will not be available.  Class sessions will last 10 minutes.  We do ask that the participants are limited to parents/guardians and/or the student.  Some classrooms at ECHS are small and cannot accommodate large groups.  Wheeler auditorium will be open to family members during Open House.  School shirts will be on sale for $6.

We look forward to fostering an outstanding relationship with all parents and guardians this year and beyond!

August 22, 2016

Back to work!  As we embark on year number two at Galena Park’s CTE Early College High School, we ask parents to remain involved and informed.  The two “I’s” will be our focus in year two.  Parent involvement is vital to the overall success of a student as well as the school.  To remain informed, ECHS places a wealth of information on this website.  We also update Twitter, Facebook, and Remind messages almost daily.  Open house is scheduled for September 13th and we will ask parents to volunteer their time throughout the year including the formation of an official Parent/Teacher Organization.  We look forward to fostering an outstanding relationship with all parents and guardians this year and beyond!  Here’s to a fabulous school year!

August 17, 2016

Lion Camp was a huge success!  We shared some pictures of the students and staff on the website.  Thursday night is a mandatory parent meeting for incoming freshmen.  The meeting starts at 6:00 in the Wheeler auditorium where we will have sessions in both English and Spanish.  Topics include student schedules, pick-up guidelines, location of offices, transportation, etc.  The purpose of this meeting is strictly informative and not intended to be a meet the teacher event.  ECHS open house will be on September 13th.  Parents who cannot attend may send a family representative because the information is very important.

August 1, 2016

August is finally here, and while the kids aren’t ready for school, I can certainly share that I am excited to see them again.  We are also excited to report that almost all of the incoming Class of 2020 have completed the TSI exam and are ready for their four-year journey.  Things will get started on August 15th with day one of Lion Camp.  Day one is for freshmen only and will start promptly at 8:00 and last until 4:00.  Transportation details will be available soon on this website.  Day two (August 16th) will be freshmen again from 8:00 to 4:00 and sophomores attending from 12:00 to 3:00.  We will feed students both days!  Dress comfortably on Day one; class shirts will be distributed to wear on Day two.  As always, please call or e-mail with questions.  See you soon!

July 19, 2016

We certainly hope you are enjoying the summer break! Returning student verification starts July 25th.  Please see the flyer attached to this website with registration locations.  All registration will take place at central locations instead of every campus.  There will be no need to come to ECHS for registration activities.  All students enrolled at ECHS, which includes the Class of 2019 and Class of 2020, must register as a returning student to GPISD.  This will include verifying your current address.  The district is taking great steps to make this an easy process for all families.  As always, if you have questions, we can be reached at 281-459-7198.

June 6, 2016

Summer break is here, but we highly recommend that you check our website frequently for any updates.  We ask that all students and parents register for Remind 101 updates, which I plan to send out frequently, especially as the start of school gets near. Instructions for how to register are located on this page.  Our summer hours will be 8:00 to 4:00, Monday through Thursday, closed on Friday’s.  As always, we are a phone call away.  Follow us on Twitter @GPISDECHS

Have a relaxing and safe summer!

May 26, 2016

It is so hard to believe that the end of school is near.  We are excited to announce that the Class of 2019 has wrapped up an amazing inaugural school year, complete with excellent results on the STAAR EOC exams, and proving that attendance is an important component of student success.  Thanks to our partner San Jacinto College for making CTE ECHS feel like a part of the college culture, and providing us with excellent facilities and support.  Make sure to check our website for updated summer and fall information.  Have restful and safe summer break!

May 9, 2016

Once again, we welcome the new Class of 2020 and look forward to spending the next 4 years together.  New students will be coming to visit San Jacinto College a few times before the end of the school year.  On May 19th, all new students will visit during the school day with an opportunity to meet their new classmates as well as current ECHS students and teachers.  We will provide lunch.  New students will also be coming to San Jacinto to take the first administration of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) test (schedules vary).  The results of this exam will have no bearing on the CTE ECHS enrollment and are exclusively for use by the college partner.

We are hosting a parent information night this Thursday (May 12) at 6:00.  The meeting will be held on campus in building 10, Wheeler Auditorium.  Parents of new active and waiting list students are highly recommended to attend as there will be important information regarding high school logistics and scheduling.  Hope to see you there.

April 25, 2016

Congratulations to the next 125 students to join CTE Early College High School.  The Class of 2020 is now complete, with a good representation from all 4 middle schools.  Thanks to the counselors and administrators at North Shore, Woodland Acres, Galena Park and Cunningham Middle schools for all of your help!  We look forward to greeting the new crew on their first trip to San Jac on May 19th.

Parents of current students, please be aware that next week is another round of EOC state testing, and we ask that you do not schedule appointments, if possible.  It is vitally important that all students are present to take the state exams as these are required as part of graduation.  Please do not hesitate to call us with questions.

April 15, 2015

Thanks to all of the parents and students who attended our information sessions.  All 4 of our middle schools did a wonderful job recruiting and assisting us with paperwork.  We are excited about the interest in CTE Early College High School and look forward to the lottery on April 22.  The lottery will start promptly at 2:00 PM and can be seen live on the Galena Park ISD website. The names of our next 125 students will be broadcast soon!  At this time, we are no longer accepting applications for enrollment.

March 29, 2016

Thanks to all the parents for attending our information sessions the past two weeks.  By popular demand, we are going to add two more parent information sessions on April 5th and April 12th.  Both sessions will start at 6:00 and will be located here at the San Jacinto campus.  You will find a map of the San Jacinto campus attached to this website.  Our meetings are located in the Wheeler Auditorium, which is located in Building 10.  These meetings are not mandatory, but there is a wealth of information to share regarding the incoming class of freshmen.  If you were able to attend any of the previous parent information meetings, then you have already received the pertinent information.  We look forward to meeting you soon.

As always, never hesitate to call or e-mail with questions.

February 29, 2016

Class of 2020, here we come!  Recruiting season for the next class of incoming freshmen has begun.  Counselors at all 4 middle schools are ready to begin passing out information to interested 8th grade students.  Our schedule for middle school visits is located on this webpage.  We have scheduled two parent information meetings as well; one for the north side at Cunningham (March 22), and one for the south side at Woodland Acres Middle School (March 28).  Both sessions start promptly at 6:00 PM.  We will stay as long as necessary to answer all of your questions.  A great source of information is always the counselors at each middle school, or you are more than welcome to call or e-mail me any time!  We look forward to meeting you soon.

February 8, 2016

ECHS is STUDENT DRIVEN with PARENTAL SUPPORT:  What does that mean?  As we begin the process of recruiting for the Class of 2020, we want parents and students to be mindful that a successful student at ECHS is one who makes most of their educational decisions themselves, with plenty of parental support.  We want students to have 100% buy-in because they are making a monumental decision to forgo the traditional high school environment and trade for life on a college campus.  If students are unsure or unwilling, but parents insist upon possible enrollment, research states that the student will not be successful.  As parents and educators, we want the very best for our children, but there are times when we must allow them to lead the way.  Of course, we are always here to assist you with your student’s decisions, so please never hesitate to call or e-mail.

January 25th, 2016

Dates are set for all official Middle School visits where we will talk specifically with the students about the ECHS program.  Those dates are available here on the ECHS website and will also be sent home with 8th graders in the coming weeks.  We are also setting dates and times for the districtwide parent meetings, which will take place at Woodland Acres MS and Cunningham MS in March.  There will be one parent Q & A session for each side of the school district, but parents can attend either session of their choice.  We look forward to answering all of your questions about our wonderful campus.  Remember, the decision to attend ECHS should be STUDENT DRIVEN with PARENTAL SUPPORT, not the other way around.  Keep checking our website for dates and information, and never hesitate to call us.

January 13th, 2016

Second semester is off to a great start!  College classes for our students begin on Tuesday, January 19th.  Students enrolled in Diesel Technology, EMT, Medical Assisting, and Pharmacy Technician are already starting introduction classes for their chosen programs, and in their freshman year of high school!

Thanks to all who have inquired about enrollment for next year.  There is a link on this page that will give you the admission requirements for the Class of 2020.  Recruitment dates at each middle school will be available on this webpage very soon…keep checking back!

January 5th, 2016

We sincerely hope that everybody had a fulfilling holiday season, and now it is time to buckle down and focus on 2nd semester.  The current group of freshmen (2019) are about to embark on a new set of college classes this semester, at the same time, we will be recruiting the future class of freshmen (2020) in the coming weeks.  We will visit all 4 middle school campuses to speak with students and parents so that you will be informed on the benefits of attending a CTE/ECHS campus.  Once students have completed and submitted an application to their 8th grade Counselor, their name will be entered into an official lottery database.  In April, a lottery drawing will take place to select 125 students who will attend ECHS in the Fall.  Students are always encouraged to speak with their Counselors if they have questions, and we are always a phone call away.  Please continue to check this website for important dates, especially when we are going to speak with parents about the program.

December 17th, 2015

We have come to the end of a fabulous semester!  Galena Park CTE ECHS would like to thank the parents and family members who helped us be so successful.  We are also thankful for all of the members of the GPISD Administration office for their tireless efforts to make this campus stand out among the crowd.  Please accept our warmest wishes for a Happy Holiday season.  School starts back on January 5th

November 30th, 2015

We certainly hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving break with friends and family! With only a few weeks until the next holiday, ECHS will be visiting all 4 middles schools to speak with the 8th graders about our campus. These will be preliminary visits with students only, followed by setting up a booth at lunches to answer questions. In January, our team will again visit all 4 middle schools to meet with both students and parents in a more formal fashion. Make sure to check our website often for information about recruiting.

November 9th, 2015

As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, we reflect on the things we are thankful for.  Obviously I am thankful for my family and friends, but also near and dear to my heart are the students, teachers, and staff members at CTE/ECHS.  We have been truly blessed with wonderful students who come from great families, and it is such a joy to watch them learn and grow each day.  A big thanks also to our parents for being so supportive and understanding in the first year of existence.  The teachers of ECHS have worked so hard to make this a first-class campus, as well as Ms. Hunt and Ms. Mendez in the front office, and we are also so thankful for the unparalleled dedication of our counselor, Ms. Villalpando.  So much to be thankful for!

All of the hard work and dedication is paying huge dividends, and the future class of 2020 will have so much to be thankful for when they start school at CTE/ECHS next August.  Please continue to visit our website for future dates regarding recruitment for next school year.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday from all of us at Galena Park CTE/ECHS.

October 27th, 2015

Many people are not aware that Galena Park CTE/ECHS is actually located on the campus of San Jacinto College.  We are very fortunate to have an educational partner like San Jacinto to provide us with excellent facilities to house our students’ full time.  This year, the class of 2019 will take all high school and college classes right on the college campus.  Each year, they will add more college classes as they work towards industry certification, and possibly an Associate’s Degree.

There are many benefits to being located on a college campus full time.  Students have access to all of the same college amenities as older students, as well as access to top notch tutoring services.  Organizations like Phi Theta Kappa, Men of Honor, and Women of Integrity are currently providing mentoring services for every ECHS student.  ECHS students will be well prepared for college life if they plan to continue their education at a 4-year campus.

While the State of Texas can brag about the number of ECHS campuses opening each year, very few are permanently housed on a college campus.  We are so fortunate, and plan to take advantage of every opportunity.  We will be heading to all Galena Park middle schools soon to begin the process of recruiting the Class of 2020.  Check out our website, follow us on Twitter, and Like our Facebook page!

October 1st, 2015

Time flies when you are having fun!  Galena Park CTE Early College High School is rolling along in its inaugural school year, and along with San Jacinto College, we have so much to be thankful for.  The students are engaged in rigorous, rewarding coursework, while enjoying life on a college campus.  While there are many Early College High Schools opening across the Great State of Texas, few are permanently housed on a college campus.  The Class of 2019 would like to thank the gracious staff of San Jacinto College North campus for making this journey so smooth.  ECHS teachers and our Counselor, Ms. Villalpando, are working tirelessly to ensure each individual student maximizes their opportunity to succeed.

Before you know it, we will be looking for members of the Class of 2020.  Beginning in the spring, ECHS staff will visit all four GPISD middle schools to share the great things happening right before our eyes.  Keep checking the ECHS website for information.  Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook as well.  Pride, Determination, Precision.
