Galena Park Elementary was rewarded this year with a $90,000.00 grant from the Texas Education Agency. This grant is part of the Governor's Educator Excellence Award Program and was the creation of a system of financial incentives to award educators who achieve higher levels of student academic performance. Galena Park Elementary was eligible for this grant based on our Recognized status for the 2005-2006 school year and our high percentage of educationally disadvantaged students. Eligible teachers will receive financial compensation from this grant in the 2007-2008 school year based on their contribution to the improvement of student achievement on our campus.
*Ranking within the top one-half of campuses with highest percentages of educationally disadvantaged students. Schools were ranked from highest to lowest percentages within each school category-elementary, middle, high schoo, and all grade campuses; AND
*Ranking Exemplary or Recognized; OR
*Top-quartile performance with respect to Comparable Improvement in Math or Reading.

Funds will be distributed in two parts: Part 1-Teacher Incentives (not less than 75% of the award) and Part 2-Additional Incentives (not more than 25% of the award).

The following staff receive incentives.
75% - Teachers PK-5th grade; special education teachers; specialists; art, music, and PE teachers
25% - Principal, Assistant Principal, TIS, librarian, counselor, nurse, custodians, cafeteria workers, paraprofessionals, diagnostician, speech pathologist, crossing guard
75% Criteria
1.Teachers must meet testing criteria set in grant.
2. Teachers/staff must meet once per month to discuss student performance and lesson plans.
25% Criteria
