The staff of North Shore Middle School recognized Coach Lemon Atkins as the 2007 Rookie Teacher of the Year. Atkins explained that he won this award by hard work. “It is an honor to represent a school doing things the Mustang Way,” said Atkins. Atkins is a history teacher. He chose to teach Texas history because he has knowledge on the subject and it is his favorite. Atkins coaches football and basketball. He said he chose to teach at NSMS because “it is a great opportunity to teach young people.” Principal Drexler stated, “We have a lot of good teachers in NSMS and I think Coach Atkins deserves it [Rookie Teacher of the Year].” Atkins graduated from Grambling State University in Louisiana with a Bachelors of Science degree.
