The 'Stang Express Newspaper

Journalism will introduce students to the study of journalism, with attention to writing, photography, design, current events, computer skills, business and ethics. Journalism students will continue to develop their skills in these areas through both class work and independent projects. In addition to class discussions and assignments that are designed to promote learning in these areas, we will give our studies practical application by producing the school newspaper each nine weeks.

Mr. Ron Burke got the program started back in 2005 and taught journalism (newspaper) until 2014. The staff grew and began to dominate state competitions and placed nationally several times.

The Stampede Yearbook

Yearbook students worked hard from August to March to put together a yearbook that celebrated the year's accomplishments and memories.

Mr. Roger Banks helped students put together the yearbook in 1999. Mr. Ron Burke took over the next year and brought the yearbook into the world of journalism competition. For the next few years, the staff was critiqued and got better. In 2005, Mr. Burke was sent to Afghanistan and then in 2006, a staff that was put together after he returned placed nationally in journalism competition.

The next year, they grew and then in 2008, despite the computer hard drive crashing and losing 90% of the yearbook, they worked to re-create it and placed nationally again!

After 2008, Ms. Emily Penick taught yearbook until it was withdrawn from the school curriculum.

Yearbook is no longer available as an elective in middle school.
