Students Thank Soldiers through Care Packages
By: Jenifer Hernandez
The Life Skills class at North Shore Middle School organized care packages for a troop of 23 soldiers in Iraq. This project was part of Celebrate Freedom Week on November 6-10, 2006. All students and teachers were invited to contribute items to the care packages. The items collected were: wipes, eye drops, lotion, Slim Jim, Chap Stick, Raman noodles, index cards, drink mix and granola bars. Both the Life Skill students and Mrs. Wright’s 8th period Journalism class wrote letters to individual soldiers. Life Skills students also made a ringed American Flag to hang outside of their classroom and decorated their door with patriotic symbols. The purpose of the project was to remember and thank the soldiers for fighting for our freedom and safety.
