DREAM IT. BELIEVE IT. GO GET IT.
GE SPONSORS YOUNG WOMEN AT WORK DAY.
Monday, December 3, 2012
As part of an ongoing partnership between General Electric (GE) and the Galena Park ISD Career and Technical Education Department, juniors and seniors from Galena Park High School and North Shore Senior High School attended the annual GE Women's Network Young Women at Work Day. Held at GE Energy Aero Energy Products in Houston, TX, the theme of the event was “Dream it. Believe it. Go get it.” The young ladies attending were exposed to various employment possibilities at the company.
Generally associated with Oil & Gas, Power & Water, and Energy Management, GE presented the students attending these workshops with job possibilities in information technology, finance, marketing and engineering. The students participated in activities, discussions and presentations for each of these areas.
Karina Padilla, a GPHS senior, said her experience was “enlightening and exciting.” While Padilla is planning to major in mechanical engineering, it was encouraging to learn about a variety of different career paths within GE. She was energized after the presentations. They helped her realize a “woman can do anything a man can do if [she] sets [her] mind to it.” Now she will also consider pursuing a career that could lead into a management position.
15 young ladies from Galena Park High School and North Shore Senior High attended the GE event (from l/r): Monique Sifuentes, Marissa LeJeune, Angelica Quinones, Meenu Pillai, Karina Padilla, Astrid Cavazos, Nancy Rangel, Narda Medina, July Mota, Lorena Garcia, Giselle Alvarez, Lucero Loredo.
