The 3rd Annual Young Women & Men’s Multicultural Conference

Houston, Texas: On Friday April 25th The Accelerated Center for Education (A.C.E.) held the 3rd Annual Young Women & Men’s Multicultural Conference. This year’s conference entitled, The Remix 2014: Being Successful in the 21st Century included more than 120 students attending various breakout sessions encompassing both social and workplace skills.  

The conference was conceived and implemented by Assistant Principal Ms. Cindy Joseph. “I felt that many of the students that I was working with were lacking basic social skills. I told Ms. Johnson about my idea for a conference and she told me to make it happen, so I did,” said Joseph. 

“Anything that we as educators can do to help enhance our students social skills as well as make them more marketable in the area of employment is an event that is surely warranted,” said ACE Principal Sherrhonda Johnson. 

There were several speakers during lunch including this years keynote speaker the Presiding Judge of Harris County Justice of the Peace Court (Precinct 3, Place 2) Judge Don Coffey. Judge Coffey challenged the students to make the necessary changes to move themselves forward in life. The was also entertainment as The Cloverleaf Elementary Choir under the direction of Angela Self Performed their version of Owl City's Fireflies.  

“It was another successful conference,” stated Joseph. “We are already beginning the planning for next year.”
