Humanities Texas Honors NSSH History Teacher

Houston, Texas: October 15, 2013: North Shore Senior High School welcomed U.S. Congressman Gene Green and Lindsay Waldenburg, Program Officer Humanities Texas as they presented Krystle Breden, United States history teacher, with the 2013 Award for Outstanding Early-Career Teaching. This award from Humanities Texas, of which only two are given in the state each year, acknowledges and celebrates exceptional teaching practices of early-career teachers in humanities with three or fewer years of experience in the classroom. Humanities Texas presented Breden with a $5,000 check for her early teaching accomplishments.

Waldendburg stated, “On behalf of Humanities Texas, I am honored to present this award to Ms. Breden. She is truly an exceptional teacher and is most deserving of this award. Congratulations to Ms. Breden, North Shore Senior High School and Galena Park ISD.”

Texas Humanities also gave an additional $500 to North Shore Senior High to acquire humanities-based instructional resources. The donation was accepted by Dr. Joe Coleman, NSSH Principal, on behalf of the English, foreign languages, and history teachers and will be used to purchase instructional materials. Coleman said, “I am so proud of Ms. Krystle Breden for being the recipient of such an outstanding award.  She is definitely an outstanding teacher and leader in the social studies department at NSSH. I am also grateful to Humanities Texas for their $500 gift to North Shore Senior High School.”

In attendance at the ceremony were GPISD Board of Trustees Wilfred Broussard, Vice President, June Harris, and Joe Stephens, Dr. Angi Williams, Superintendent of Schools, and district and school administrators. In addition, many NSSH faculty and students shared the proud moment with Breden. Also, Breden’s mother, Mrs. Kelli Breden, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Mo Breden traveled from Indiana, Breden’s home state, to take part in the honor.

Breden said, “I am so incredibly humbled and honored to be presented with this award. I cannot thank the faculty, staff, and students of North Shore Senior High and the Galena Park ISD enough for their support and dedication. I am truly blessed!”

Breden’s passion for history, exemplary teaching practices, and genuine compassion for students make her a teacher worthy of this award. GPISD is fortunate to have Krystle Breden as a member of the district family of professionals.
