Mustangs Finish Football Season
Houston, Texas: The North Shore Mustangs began the football season with a new head coach, a new offense, and a brutally tough schedule. In the first four weeks of play, they battled against some of the top teams in the state. However, this provided good opportunities for growth. “It was tough,” admitted first year head coach Jon Kay. “We were implementing a new offense and playing some powerhouse football teams. But our guys handled it well. They handled it like champs,” he added.
The Mustangs battled back and finished the season with an 8-5 record, a district championship, and a playoff run that ended in the regional semi-final game against Cy-Ranch. “I feel good about the way we coached and played. We just had a few too many errors, and they're a good football team,” said Coach Kay about their last game of the season. Fortunately, there is good reason for optimism next season.
“Our JV A-team had an undefeated season, and they played some tough teams. We've got some good talent coming up to replace the guys who are graduating,” Kay noted. With another season running the same offense, and working with the same coaching staff, the Mustangs are looking to make a run to state. “Next year we'll have everything in place to take it to the next level,” Coach Kay said.
