Shop With A Cop - Christmas Comes Early
Houston, Texas: Christmas came a little early this year for some students at Tice and Purple Sage Elementary schools. The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) brought blessings to these families in the form of Wal-Mart gift cards. “This is an outreach for the community. We've been doing this for about 20 years,” said Tom Moore, Harris County FOP president. Each child received a $150 Wal-Mart gift card and a personal escort with a police officer. As the items were rung up, it became clear that these children were not just thinking of themselves. One student had a jersey for her dad. Other students purchased gifts for siblings. “It's so refreshing to see these students think of others. They can buy whatever they want with the money, yet they choose to give. It's the sweetest thing and I am so proud of our students, parents, and teachers for instilling such a generous spirit in our young people,” commented Dr. Angi Williams, GPISD Superintendent of Schools. “We do this for the kids. These are our kids,” said Lt. David Jones who works in the GPISD schools. “This is a joyful thing. Words can't express how this makes us feel. We love to give back to the community in which we work,” Jones added.
