GPISD Celebrates Academic State Champion

Houston, Texas: Galena Park ISD celebrated the success of yet another state champion, Alma Rodriguez, at the June Board of Trustees Meeting. On May 26, Rodriguez competed in the UIL Academic State Meet in the Computer Applications category. According to the UIL website, “Computer Applications focuses on word processing speed and accuracy, skill in the use of database and spreadsheet applications, and the integration of all of these.” The competition is technology based and requires students to have a thorough, working knowledge of Microsoft® products (Word, Excel and Access) and the ability to complete substantial tasks in all of them, then direct data from one application to another. After successfully completing these grueling tasks with a greater degree of efficiency and accuracy than other competitors, Alma won first place and was named the 2015 6A State Champion.
