TASSP Region Outstanding Principal/Assistant Principal of the Year

Houston, Texas: Tony Gardea, Principal of Galena Park High School, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as Region IV Outstanding Principal of the Year. Mr. Gardea is a 15-year administrator. His administrative career began at Galena Park Middle School. He was promoted to high school in 2005 where he served as Assistant Principal at the North Shore Ninth Grade Campus. Mr. Gardea has headed the leadership team at Galena Park High School since 2010. He is credited with numerous achievements including Galena Park ISD Rookie Teacher of the Year and Secondary Principal of the Year.

Sheree Walker, Assistant Principal at Joyce Zotz Education Center, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as Region IV Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year. Mrs. Walker, a 6-year administrator began her administrative career at Galena Park Middle School in 2009 and was promoted to high school as an administrator in 2013. Mrs. Walker has strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills, which allows her to cultivate a strong learning environment for students and reinforce the district's vision for all campuses as well as the mission of Zotz Education Center to “Build bridges with purpose.”

TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the twenty Region Education Service Centers in the state. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. Mr. Gardea and Mrs. Walker were recognized during the Josten's Night of the Stars Awards Dinner at Hilton Austin Downtown Hotel on Tuesday, June 9th and at Galena Park ISD School Board Meeting on Monday, June 15th.
