Galena Park ISD Honors Veterans

Houston, Texas: As part of a week dedicated to honoring those who have served or are serving our nation, Galena Park ISD hosted its annual Veterans Day Luncheon on November 11. More than 100 veterans attended and were honored by performances from North Shore Senior High School’s honor choir as they sang each military branch’s theme song and finished with the Star Spangled Banner. There were also letters written from students to the veterans on the tables, and a special reading of a letter to veterans written and read by Emily Zamora from Woodland Acres Elementary School. In the letter, Emily wrote, “I am writing this letter to thank you for all that you have done for our country as we honor you and your fellow soldiers on Veterans Day… I can imagine all of the sacrifices that you have made. When the temperatures are low and uncomfortably cold, you have slept with one blanket. Meanwhile, back at home, we are snuggly in our beds with two or three to keep us warm… As a third grader… I am honored to be an American and celebrate Veterans Day with you. I hope that God protects you, your families, and most of all, the United States of America. Love, Emily.”

Pictured: WWII Army/Air Force veteran Tony Burciaga, Sr. flew 33 missions as a tail gunner, “And I came back from every one!” he proudly proclaimed. We are certainly glad he did.
