GPHS Robotics Team Heads to State

Houston, Texas: On Saturday, October 11th, the Galena Park High School Robotics Team, Team KAOS, competed in the Galena Park VEX Skyrise Competition held at the GPISD Agriculture Facility. Twenty-six teams from across South Texas competed in this event where robots are programmed and controlled remotely to score cubes on skyrise posts.

An alliance of three teams makes up Team KAOS: Team A (an all girls team); Team D (a senior boys team), and Team Z (a junior boys team). The Team KAOS alliance won the overall tournament championship in the final match 2 games to 1. In addition, the team also won the most prestigious award of the event – The Excellence Award – given to the team with the best overall team performance, outstanding presentation and engineering notebook. Furthermore, Team D won the Think Award, given for best overall design concept and construction of their robot.

With their victories, all three KAOS teams are qualified for the South Texas championships in February. Held in Clear Lake, they will compete against 60+ teams for the state championship and the right to participate in the world championships.
