Shade Structure Shelters Students

Houston, Texas: Teaming up with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Dr. Paula Leis, practicing dermatologist and a member of the AAD, sponsored a grant that provided the students at Tice Elementary a protective shade structure over their playground. The school's counselor, Elisa Segura, submitted the application for the grant. On October 16, 2014, Amy Cole, principal, along with Dr. Angi Williams, superintendent of schools and Joe Stephens, board of trustees vice president, dedicated the structure to the health and well being of the students. Amy Cole extended the gratitude of the students, faculty and parents to Dr. Leis and her representative, Ms. Hammersky. “The shade structure is not only a gift to safeguard the students, but it is a testament to effective collaborative efforts between schools and our greater community and businesses. When we all work together with a common purpose, our students win every time,” Cole said.
