Tice Elementary Wins Shade Structure Grant
Houston, Texas: Tice Elementary School has won the 2014 American Academy of Dermatology's Shade Structure Grant. Ms. Elisa Segura, counselor at Tice, submitted an application for the grant last year. In April, Tice was awarded $8,000 by the organization, and construction has now started. The first step in the process begins with concrete bases for the structure.
The American Academy of Dermatology's Shade Structure Grant Program awards grants to public schools and non-profit organizations for installing permanent shade structures for outdoor locations that are not protected from the sun, such as playgrounds, pools or recreation spaces.
The construction of the shaded area will be completed by September 24th, and a dedication ceremony is being planned to celebrate the new addition to the school playground. The company installing the shade is All Play Inc., and the dermatologist sponsoring the Tice grant is Dr. Paula Leis from the Southeast Dermatology Clinic located on Fairmont in Pasadena. Congratulations Ms. Segura and Tice Elementary.
