Houston Symphony Orchestra Returns to Community for Free Concert Series

Houston, Texas: Each summer, the Houston Symphony Orchestra provides the City of Houston with free performances at various venues such as local churches, schools and outdoor venues. Among the eight scheduled community performances this year, the Symphomy returned to perform once again at North Shore Senior High School on June 9, 2016. The Summer Community Concert Series was led by Associate Conductor Robert Franz and welcomed soprano Gwendolyn Alfred and baritone Blas Canedo González for a concert entitled “Epic Tales in Music.” The program included Wagner's famous “The Ride of the Valkyries,” Gershwin's “Summertime,” and a dramatic score medley from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise.

Prior to the concert, children were invited to take part in the instrument petting zoo, a hands-on, interactive activity which provided them an opportunity to touch and play instruments which represent each of the orchestra's instrument families.
