Congressman Gene Green Visits High School Seniors
Houston, Texas: On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, U.S. Congressman Gene Green visited the seniors of Galena Park and North Shore Senior High Schools to talk about the importance of voting. When the congressman asked who was registered to vote, many raised their hand. For those not registered, however, he encouraged them to get registered and actively participate in the electoral process. “It's your civic duty to vote,” Green said. “You can help elect the next president of the United States this November,” he added. After speaking to the students he answered questions, shook hands, and took photos with students and faculty. “We appreciate him coming here every year. His presence on our campus helps our students feel like they do have a voice in our government,” noted Dr. Coleman, principal of North Shore Senior High School. Tony Gardea, principal of Galena Park High School, believes Green's visits have a positive impact. “This is good for our students' educational process. Congressman Green is reinforcing the message we teach to our students - become lifelong learners as well as productive, involved citizens,” Gardea said.
