Mustangs Back On Track
Houston, Texas: The North Shore Mustangs took on the visiting Bruins from Beaumont West Brook last Friday night. This was the first district game of the season. In a game that felt closer than it was, the Mustangs actually trailed the Bruins in the first half, however the Bruin lead was short-lived. The Mustangs built a 10-point lead by half time. In the third quarter, North Shore failed to put up any more points while the Bruins managed a field goal. In the fourth quarter the Mustangs got things rolling, scoring 21 points while holding the Bruins to one touchdown. The defense played a solid game, giving up only 241 yards on the night. The Mustangs amassed 443 yards on the night. But for some costly turnovers, the Mustangs dominated the Bruins. North Shore Kicker Aaron Cuevas scored the first points for the Mustangs with a 45-yard field goal. Quarterback Maciah Long threw for 154 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Bryant Badie, relieving for Long, threw for 75 yards and 1 TD. Long also ran for 111 yards and two more TDs. Tyler Boudreaux rushed for 63 yards and scored 2 TDs. Eltroy Potts caught 5 passes for 133 yards and 2 TDs.
The Mustangs have a bye this week, and prepare to take on the Channelview Falcons Friday night, October 9, at Maddry Stadium in Channelview. The Mustangs haven't forgotten about the fairy tale ending of their homecoming game against Channelview last year – only the Mustangs were on the wrong side of the fairy tale. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Channelview QB Jalen Hurts completed a Hail Mary pass in the end zone to clinch the upset. It was the first time, in recent history anyway, that Channelview defeated North Shore. This game should be filled with plenty of fireworks – a grudge match in the truest sense of the word.
