North Shore Senior Teacher Appointed to Texas Commission on Public School Finance
Houston, Texas: Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Melissa Martin, North Shore Senior High teacher, to the Texas Commission on Public School Finance. Martin and three other individuals will develop recommendations for the governor and legislature on public school funding and prepare a report to deliver by the end of 2018.
“I’m honored to represent the students and teachers in our great state,” said Martin. “I’m looking forward to serving by first studying the current public school finance system then collaborating with the others on the commission to make recommendations to improve the system in order to meet the needs of our students.”
Martin is a career and technology teacher and is a member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, advisor for the Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and a former advisor for the Texas Association of Future Educators. She received her bachelors and master’s degree from Lamar University.
Congratulations, Mrs. Martin!
