Superintendent's Spotlight

GPISD Family and Friends,

In looking at the calendar each year, the joy of Spring Break is soon replaced by the emotions associated with state mandated tests. Although it might be tempting to fill our days with anxiety and angst, it is much healthier emotionally and physically to anticipate the challenges presented by testing and to do everything in our power to focus on achievement. In order to do our best, we need a team effort.

The STAAR/EOC tests seek to measure students’ ability to think critically.  In Galena Park ISD, the teachers have spent countless hours preparing and delivering instructional lessons to ensure our students have all the tools necessary to master the concepts required on these exams.

Parents, you can help us by making sure your student is well rested and attending school regularly. Simply asking questions related to problem solving, congratulating them in advance, or making sure their hard work is acknowledged can all serve to sharpen their mental “pencil” for the task at hand.

Galena Park ISD seeks to prepare students to become productive students and lifelong learners. State mandated testing is but one element in our mission to excellence. I am proud of the dedication of our teachers, the efforts of our students, and the support of all stakeholders. Collectively you are examples of “Excellence in all, for all and by all.”

Sincerely,

Angi Williams, Ed.D.
