Web 2.0 Tools: Beyond Social Networking Kele Anyanwu, M.S - Pasadena ISD To most in-service teachers the term web 2.0 means mostly social networking online tools like MySpace, Face book, Twitters and YouTube, but web 2.0 tools means a lot more than this. Due to this limited understanding, many teachers especially in high school fail to harness the inherent potential in many types of web 2. 0 tools to provide engaging instructional strategies in the classroom. More often the students are more aware of other types of web 2. 0 tools than the teachers. </br>In this workshop, clarity about web 2.0 tools will be delineated and what lies beyond web 2.0 that is, web 3.0 will be previewed. These online tools will be classified and the overwhelming advantages regarding how they are redefining technology in the classroom and district wide network implication will be examined. Adaption within technology integration framework in alignment with recent TEKS review in core science subjects will be demonstrated as well. |

Have you heard of Second Life, Reaction Grid, Whyville, or any number of other virtual worlds? The kids are in virtual worlds, some as early as 2 and 3. Let's harness the energy of this form and use it for teaching. It is time to go where the kids are and bring the excitement of virtual worlds into their learning environment. Lets go to Jamestown, fly in Apollo 11, watch a tornado or tsunami, examine the parts of a cell, or build Ellis Island then experience what it was like to BE an immagrant there.
