Audie Leon Murphy (1924-1971)

When Audie Murphy died in 1971, he was the most decorated combat soldier in U.S. history.  He earned 33 awards, citations and decorations, including the Medal of Honor, for his service during World War II campaigns in Sicily, Italy, Fance, and Germany.  After the war he became a successful movie actor starring in 39 films.  He wrote 14 songs, two of which were in the top ten on the Hit Parade.  He was also an author and poet.  He was killed in an airplane crash in 1971.
