Clarence F. Birdseye (1886-1956)
Born in New York, Clarence Birdseye worked as a naturalist and fur trader as a young man, and realized the importance of food preservation. By the 1920s he was pioneering the process of quick freezing processed seafood. He perfected the process in the 1930s and developed specialized food freezing and dehydrating equipment. He held over 250 patents in food processing and incandescent lighting.
