GALENA PARK ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ENJOY PEP RALLY WITH GALENA PARK HIGH YELLOWJACKETS
Dement Field came alive under a beautiful blue sky on Friday, Oct. 27 when the Galena Park High Band of Gold, along with the Yellowjacket football team, cheerleaders and Jacketeers dance team celebrated with 228 excited students from Galena Park Elementary for a pep rally in grand fashion.
Elementary students attending the pep rally were being rewarded for their outstanding performance in the school’s Project READ program. Students attending the pep rally met their first nine weeks goal with an average of 85 percent correct in the program.
Project READ is an accountable reading practice in place at several GPISD campuses that provides daily reading time for students. Points are accumulated for each book that is read and there are competitions between classes and even grade levels. Following the pep rally, members of the Yellowjacket football team and cheerleaders visited every classroom in Galena Park Elementary and even found time to sign autographs and pose for pictures in addition to stressing the importance of reading and staying in school.
