Galena Park ISD students have a unique opportunity for face-to-face dialogue with Dr. Mark Henry, Superintendent of Schools, through the district’s Student Advisory Board.
The Student Advisory Board is comprised of 16 students, two from each grade level from each of the district’s three high schools: Galena Park High School, North Shore High School and North Shore Senior High School. The advisory board, created 11 years ago, allows students an opportunity to voice concerns about any and all issues occurring on campus.
“The Student Advisory Board is a very important communication tool in our district. This advisory board provides an excellent opportunity for me to have face-to-face, meaningful dialogue with students regarding their high school education,” said Dr. Mark Henry.
Each student on the board is selected by their principal and is considered to be a leader among their peers. The discussion with Dr. Henry covers a variety of topics including dress code, security, curriculum, career choices and scheduling.
The student advisory board will meet with Dr. Henry four times throughout the school year. In between meetings, students will be taking notes and listening to their classmates for ideas and suggestions that could improve their schools.
