FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GALENA PARK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT NAMED FINALIST IN CAPITAL ONE HIGH SCHOOL MASCOT CHALLENGE

Ronell Walker, a junior at Galena Park High School, was recently notified that he is one of 15 finalists from the greater Houston area in the Capital One High School Mascot Challenge program. Walker performs during athletic events and other school functions wearing the Mr. Jack costume that has been a staple at GPHS for years.
Finalists were selected based on criteria including interaction with fans and demonstration of the mascot’s ability to create enthusiasm and contribute to an exhilarating atmosphere; originality, creativity, and spirited attitude; and professionalism of the mascot’s appearance/costume.
Walker and the other finalists will perform during halftime at the University of Houston vs. Central Florida game on Oct. 28 at Robertson Stadium. Fans may vote for their favorite mascot online beginning Oct. 7 or they may visit any Capital One Bank location in the greater Houston area. The website for voting is www.houstonmascotchallenge.com.
The grand prize in the contest is a $5,000 award donated to mascot’s school’s athletic department for use in scholarships and funding the mascot program.
