Galena Park ISD Earns RECOGNIZED Rating

The Texas Education Agency announced today that Galena Park ISD has earned a Recognized rating in the state’s accountability system for the 2007-2008 school year.
Freedom Elementary (now Williamson Elementary), Jacinto City Elementary, MacArthur Elementary, Purple Sage Elementary, Pyburn Elementary and Tice Elementary achieved the status of Exemplary in the 2007-2008 ratings. Cobb Sixth Grade Campus, Cunningham Middle School, Galena Park Middle School, Cimarron Elementary, Cloverleaf Elementary, Galena Park Elementary, Green Valley Elementary, Havard Elementary, Normandy Crossing Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary and Woodland Acres Elementary were rated as Recognized and all other campuses were rated as Acceptable.
Schools that earned an Exemplary rating had passing rates of 90 percent or more on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) for all students and each student group (African American, Hispanic, White and Economically Disadvantaged).
Earning a Recognized rating required passing rates of 75 percent or more on TAKS for all students and each student group.
“We are extremely proud of the Recognized rating. This would not be possible without the long hours and hard work from our fantastic team of educators and the tremendous support we enjoy from our parents and community,” said Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools. “Our students have shown improvement every year and I want to thank them for their hard work and commitment to learning. I would also like to thank each and every member of our staff for keeping the best interest of our students first and foremost. We will continue to make every effort to create the optimal learning environment for our students.”
