Football players at Galena Park High School once again took it upon themselves to share Christmas with those less fortunate by collecting toys and clothing as well as food items and monetary donations which were all given to local charitable organizations.
All food items collected were split between food pantries in Galena Park and Jacinto City and the toys were distributed to community organizations such as Toys for Tots and Helping Hands and any toys left over were given to food pantries. Any extra funds raised were distributed to community organizations. Athletes from all grade levels participated in this project and football players joined the coaching staff in adopting two families for Christmas. In addition to the toys and clothing, gift cards were presented to the family.
“We speak often about how much better it is to give rather than receive and these young men took it upon themselves to help others in this community,” said Ray Zepeda, head coach at Galena Park. “The players gave a tremendous amount of effort to this project and it shows.”
Assistant coach Juan Rodriguez talked about how proud he is of the players.
“What these guys accomplished in just two or three short weeks is amazing. They are setting an example for others to follow. These guys really understand about the importance of giving back and that there is more to life than just football,” said Juan Rodriguez, assistant coach at Galena Park.
