Canton brings Internet safety message to district students

           Katie Canton, an ambassador to youth from Web Wise Kids, brought her message of Internet safety to Galena Park ISD students on Thursday, May 8. Canton, who is now 21, gave presentations at four campuses that were streamed live through the district’s internal broadcasting system (GPTV) so all students had the chance to watch her important message.
          Katie shared her story with students in an effort to warn them about the dangers of Internet predators. At the age of 15 Katie found herself being groomed by an Internet predator who convinced her that they were in love.  Thankfully she was able to realize through the help of watchful parents and the "Missing" game that a child predator was luring her. This realization prevented her from becoming his next victim.  Katie used her gripping experience to warn teenagers that they could easily fall into the same trap.
