Adrian Maldonado, a senior at Galena Park High School, was recognized as the Galena Park ISD Student of the Month during the Oct. 5 North Area Channel Chamber of Commerce luncheon in the Monument Room of San Jacinto College North.
Adrian, a three-year letterman in football for the Yellowjackets, recently received a $1,000 scholarship through the Reliant Energy Scholarship for Champions program. He was presented the check by Jared Zabransky, former quarterback of the Houston Texans, and was honored before the Houston Texans game against the Indianapolis Colts at Reliant Stadium on Sept. 22. Adrian has been team captain for the football team for the past two seasons and also runs track.
Adrian has a 4.677 GPA on a 5-point scale and is ranked number two in the senior class. He is a 2007 Texas Boys’ State Representative, is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, and is a member of the National Math Honor Society and is treasurer of the National Honor Society. He also served as junior class president.
“Adrian is truly an excellent young man. He is very well-rounded and is one of those special students who is respected by all of his peers, his teachers and his team members. He is a true pleasure to coach and teach,” said Ray Zepeda, head coach of the Yellowjackets.
