GPISD Students Named All-State in Music

Four Galena Park ISD students were awarded a place in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State organizations. To achieve All-State status, students begin auditions in September with tens of thousands of music students across the state. Students who advance through the All-District, All-Region and All-Area auditions are named to the Texas All-State Band, Choir or Orchestra. Less than 1 percent of the students entering the process achieve this award—the highest accomplishment a music student may achieve in Texas.

The students will participate in the 2010 TMEA Clinic and Convention, to be held February 10-13 in San Antonio. The TMEA convention is the largest music educator convention in the country with more than twenty-six thousand in attendance. Students will have the opportunity to rehearse with internationally renowned conductors during the conference culminating in a final concert performance.

GPISD students advancing to All-State are:

Taylor Surratt, North Shore Senior High Choir, tenor; Cynthia Alejandre, North Shore Senior High Band, flute; Elizabeth Castillo, North Shore Senior High Band, flute; and Richard Carrasco, Galena Park High School Band, trumpet.
