Hicks Honored at Chamber Luncheon

Travis Brightwell Hicks, a senior at Galena Park High School, was recognized as the Galena Park ISD Student of the Month during the May North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon in the Monument Room at San Jacinto College North.
Hicks has a 5.0 GPA on a 5.0 scale and is ranked third in his graduating class. He was honored at Galena Park ISD’s Dazzling Diamonds Gala this spring. That event features the top 5 percent of the graduating class and allows students to choose one teacher who had made a difference in their lives.
Hicks chose to honor Mike Hensley, his social studies teacher at Galena Park High School. He said this about Mr. Hensley.
“It was his class that prepared me for all of the other AP classes and AP tests that I have taken. He made world history interesting for me and never failed to add in more than just the required teaching in his classes.”
Hicks studied career options carefully and decided to pursue architecture that interacts formally with a chosen environment. Spending a summer at a Duke University program that took him to Italy probably helped him choose this path.
He is planning on attending The University of Texas at Austin and is on the waiting list for Rice University.
