FFA Livestock Show and Auction Brings in Record Amount

         The seventh annual Galena Park Livestock Show and Auction, held on Nov. 18 at the district’s Agriculture Facility, was a great success as students brought in record amounts for their animals and projects. The 2009 auction brought in a record $44,910, topping the previous record of $32,000 set during the 2007 auction.
         Ronnie Ramirez from the North Shore Senior High School FFA, raised the grand champion steer, which was purchased by G.W. Phillips Construction for $6,500 (last year’s grand champion steer sold for $3,750). Zayra Rendon, also from North Shore Senior High School FFA, raised the reserve champion steer. It was purchased by John and Burnie Cooper for $2,500.
         Leighton Distefano of Galena Park High School FFA raised the grand champion swine. It was purchased by G.W. Phillips Construction for $3,400. Taylor Atchley of North Shore Senior High School raised the reserve champion swine. It was purchased by the Galena Park ISD school principals for $1,500. 
         Leighton Distefano of Galena Park High School FFA also raised the grand champion goat. It was purchased by the North Shore Rotary Club for $1,750. Jamie Loving of North Shore Senior High School raised the reserve champion goat. It was purchased by the GPISD Board of Trustees and David and Earlene Hopkins for $1,200.
         Abrie Ankrom from North Shore Senior High School FFA raised the grand champion lamb. It was purchased by the Galena Park/Jacinto City Rotary Club for $1,500. Ariel Marquez of North Shore Senior High School raised the reserve champion lamb. It was purchased by the GPISD Education Foundation for $700. 
         Zayra Rendon of North Shore High School FFA raised the grand champion rabbits. They were purchased by the Galena Park ISD Curriculum and Instruction Department for $1,400. Valorie Garcia of North Shore Senior High School FFA raised the reserve champion rabbits. They were purchased by Hodges and Company for $1,000.
         Robby Perkins of North Shore Senior High School FFA raised the grand champion broiler. It was purchased by the Gulf Tex Feed Store for $1,200. Ronnie Ramirez of North Shore Senior High School FFA raised the reserve champion broiler. It was purchased by Dewayne David for $700.
         Harley Gray of North Shore Senior High School FFA prepared the grand champion food project. It was purchased by the Nic & Ed’s Quarter Horses for $500. Cassie Carpenter of North Shore Senior High School FFA prepared the reserve champion food project. It was purchased by Nikki Lovell and friends for $300. 
         The grand champion horticulture project was from Desiree Garza of North Shore Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by GPISD Education Foundation for $300. The reserve champion horticulture project was from Zayra Rendon from North Shore Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by John and Burnie Cooper for $200. 
The grand champion floral design project was from Eliselda Martinez of North Shore Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by GPISD Education Foundation for $250. The reserve champion floral design project was from Jacqueline Clawson from North Shore Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by the GPISD Education Foundation for $300. 
         The grand champion art project was from Eliselda Martinez of North Shore Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by Janie Flores for $300. The reserve champion art project was from Amanda Allen from North Shore Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by Dr. Mark Henry for $300. 
         The grand champion photography project was from Jacquelyn Distefano of Galena Park High School FFA. It was purchased by Nic & Ed’s Quarter Horses for $650. The reserve photography project was from Vanessa Vasquez from Galena Park Senior High School FFA. It was purchased by Chuck and Pam Radney and Stephanie Martin for $610.
