Galena Park PTA Celebrates Founder's Day

Galena Park's Parent Teacher Association joined many school districts across the nation in celebrating this year's National PTA Founder's Day on February 17, 2011. This year's GPISD Annual PTA Banquet with a "Kentucky Derby Theme" was an amazing success and the turnout was phenomenal. The PTA enjoyed a record breaking year, and this event was the perfect opportunity to celebrate these successes.

For many PTAs, the Founders' Day celebration has become the occasion for the presentation of Honorary Life memberships. The tribute is not only to the past leaders but also to the leaders of today. To recognize a present day leader in a special way, Galena Park PTA's highest honor, an Honorary Life Membership, is bestowed upon the deserving individual.

The Honorary Life Membership honor was awarded to three individuals who have worked hard to promote PTA and its programs and who have been a vital advocates of strong membership for their campus and district. The individuals who received this honor for the 2010-2011 school year are Joe Long (Sam Houston Elementary), Wanda Brown (Normandy Crossing Elementary), and Katie Smithers (Normandy Crossing Elementary).

Galena Park PTA encourages all parents to get involved for theirchildren and for their community. Studies have shown that membership in PTA provides your child and other children around you with a greater chance of achieving in school. As a PTA member, you are more likely to be an informed, involved parent, learning ways to keep children safe and involved in school. PTA is a great place to gain that knowledge.
