Student Surprised by Scholarship from Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center |
On Tuesday, February 1, 2011, North Shore High School senior, Ryan Perez, was awarded a $1,000 dollar scholarship from the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Friends and family gathered around as Ryan was led by North Shore Senior High School principal, Ken Wallace, to receive his award. This was a complete surprise for Ryan as he expected a simple meeting with Mr. Wallace, not a group of people gathered to congratulate him for his hard work and dedication in assisting with the high school blood drives. Of the award, Ryan said "every time somebody donates blood, you save three lives," noting how important is to give blood. The blood collected since Ryan has been involved in blood drives has the potential of saving over 6,000 lives.
