Students Succeed at South by Southwest Film Festival

Over spring break, ten students from North Shore Senior High School's video production class, Stampede Studios, visited the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) held in Austin, TX. The students participated in panels held by renowned film directors, attended movie premiers, and were engrossed in the nuances of film production and story telling.

One of the students, Micah Autry, directed a film entitled "Drones," which was selected to be a finalist among over 5,000 student film entries. Finalistís films are screened in packed theaters throughout Austin during SXSW festival.

Additionally the students participated in the Youth M.A.F.I.A., a competition where teams have exactly 24 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. The film must be based on a genre specified by the Youth M.A.F.I.A. and the film must incorporate a specific prop.

North Shore Senior High had two teams. Jessica Martinez, Christian Melendez, Micah Autry, April Rodriguez, Jeffrey Nickelson and Chris Salinas formed a team and created a film titled, “With the Help of Love.” Zachary Fradette, Phoebe Caudill, Sydnie Hinshaw and Julian Deliphose, along with former student John Fernandez made up a second team. They created a film titled, “Speed.” After 24 hours of grueling writing, shooting, directing and editing, the film, “With the Help of Love” earned a Viewers Choice Award.
