Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees Names Sole Finalist
for Superintendent of Schools – Dr. Angi Williams

November 14, 2011 – The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Dr. Angi Williams as sole finalist for superintendent of schools during the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting, held on November 14, 2011 at 6:00 PM. The announcement was met with cheers and a standing ovation from the audience. Texas law requires the Board to allow at least 21 days between the time a finalist is announced and an employee contract is signed.

Dr. Williams is currently the Interim Superintendent of Schools for Galena Park ISD. The Board of Trustees asked her to fill that position when Dr. Mark Henry accepted the superintendent of schools position at Cy-Fair ISD.

Dr. Williams has served in education since 1979. She spent 27 of those years in Galena Park ISD. Her educational career has spanned a multitude of positions, including math teacher, counselor, assistant principal, principal, Assistant Superintendent for School/Community Relations, and Deputy Superintendent for Educational Support.

Dr. Williams earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Prairie View A & M University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Guidance and Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Texas Southern University. In addition to the counselor certification, Dr. Williams also holds the Mid-Management and Superintendent certifications.

Dr. Williams is a member of several educational organizations, and has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Educational Achievement Award from the Galena Park Education Association, the National Life Achievement Award from the Galena Park Area Council PTA, the Most Outstanding Trailblazer in Education Award from the Ivy League Educational & Charities Foundation, and the Texas Southern University College of Education Hall of Fame induction.

The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees felt her experience through so many facets of education warranted her the interim position. Her leadership qualities and job performance of the past few months ensured the Board of Trustees she was the right person for the job.
