Random Student Drug Testing

In a proactive measure to help maintain a drug-free environment for all students, members of the Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees adopted a policy to implement random student drug-testing. The use of alcohol and illegal drugs poses serious healthy and safety risks to our students and staff. Student drug-testing should serve as a deterrent to the use of illegal drugs and to provide students with a reason to resist peer pressure.

Before a student is eligible to participate in school-sponsored competitive extracurricular activities, a written parent consent form, including student and parent signature is required annually.

Participation in school-sponsored competitive extracurricular activities is a privilege and not a right. Refusal to consent to random drug testing will result in the denial of participation in extracurricular activities. Participation is defined to include competition and performance.
