Read Write Think - Summer Activities is an excellent resource on the web for things to do online this summer to explore reading and writing. Be sure to check out the literacy activities for your age group, if you are in ages 4-8, there are acitivities such as Let's Play Bingo and Watching a Garden Grow. If you are between the ages of 3 to 11 , there are activities like Make a Bio-Cube and Creating Comics and Cartoons.

Moody Gardens

There is a good chance you will want to visit an aquarium or a zoo sometime this summer. But what are the chances of seeing these inside a pyramid? The chances are really good for Houstonians, but only if you visit Moody Gardens. This family theme park embraces an innovative design with their large pyramid structures.

The Aquarium Pyramid features creatures from the Caribbean, South Atlantic, North Pacific and South Pacific.

The ten story Rainforest Pyramid has three rainforest environments based on Asian, Aftrican and American forest. Each environment contains plant life that is native to that particular rainforest.

And the Discovery Pyramid is the ultimate interactive educational experience. The exhibits change so be sure to have your parents check the website before you visit. You can also sign up for Pyramid Kids Camps for ages 3-14

SplashTown Waterpark
Cool down from the heat of the Texas summer with a day at SplashTown. Smaller children have an island that is completely devoted just to them. Here you can shoot water cannons, slip down slides and splash the day away in the cool water.

Old MacDonald's Farm is a petting zoo paradise for everyone to enjoy. The whole family will enjoy being able to pet the farm animals in twelve petting zoos at this fun farm. If you are ten years old or younger, this would have to be on the short list! If you are looking for a place to host your birthday party or a family reunion, the "Old West Fort" and "Indian Village" are nice, covered areas where you can entertain. There is also lots of other things to do besides petting the animals, such as riding the good natured ponies, riding the miniature train, swimming in the pool, and catching crawfish in the crawfish pond.

Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens is a wonderful spot for the plant lover in every family. You are guaranteed to learn something about our friends the plants in a visit to Mercer, one of two aboreta in the Houston area.

The Battleship Texas is the last surviving battleship of its kind, originally commissioned in 1914 as a state-of-the-art warship patterned after the British HMS Dreadnought. The TEXAS is an important part of US Naval history and a proud reminder of the conditions experienced by sailors during WWI and WWII.
